Guide to Homeschooling in Wyoming

One of the biggest advantages to homeschooling is the ability to tailor your child’s education to their individual needs and interests. Families who live in Wyoming are definitely in luck because not only are there no annual testing or assessments, but there are really only 2 basic requirements!

Homeschooling in Wyoming: Getting Started

To begin (and continue) homeschooling in Wyoming, there are two requirements that must be met:

  1. Submit a letter of intent to homeschool, along with a summary of the curriculum and materials you plan to use for the school year
  2. Teach the required subjects as set forth by the State of Wyoming

Navigating Wyoming Homeschool Requirements

The letter of intent to homeschool is a very basic requirement that is necessary in almost all 50 states. Every year, parents simply must send a letter to the superintendent’s office either by mail via online registration. This must be done for all children ages 7-16 and must be done every year that the child is homeschooled. In addition to this letter of intent, a summary of the curriculum and materials must also be submitted each year to your local school board. Families have full autonomy over the type of curriculum and materials they choose to teach with, as long as the required subjects are included. These subjects include:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Civics
  • History

Recording Keeping in Wyoming

While it is not required that parents keep records of their child’s educational journey while homeschooling in Wyoming, it’s always a great idea. Maintaining a portfolio of your child’s tests, transcripts, grades, curriculum, and immunization records ensures that all information is put together, should your child return to traditional schooling or decide to enroll in college or technical school.
